Attendance Allowance
A benefit
if you require help with personal care. Attendance Allowance is not
dependent on your National Insurance contributions.
It is not means tested and is free of tax. To qualify
you need to be over 65 and require help in performing a number of Activities
of Daily Living (ADL’s); for instance bathing, dressing, washing, eating,
etc. Attendance Allowance is paid at two levels, and the rate you would
claim would be dependent on whether the help you need is for 12 or 24 hours
each day. Please visit the
Department for Work and Pensions website to download an Attendance
Allowance Claim form.
Care
advice from Affinity Financial Awareness is available by completing our Specialist Advice form. Whether you are
just entering the care system or already in care, it is difficult to obtain
all the facts, figures and information needed to make the right choice
about how to pay for care most effectively.
The Department of Health recognises that the options
offered by Social Services and Local Authorities is limited, and therefore
in its guidance notes says, ‘You are advised to seek independent advice
before you finalise your arrangements’.
